Mike Moore - Head Coach

Coach Mike Moore has been teaching and coaching in the Iowa City Community School District for 30 years. He has coached track & field at City High for 24 years and this is his 8th season as the head coach. After the 2017 and 2021 seasons, Mike and his staff were named State Coaches of the Year At-Large. He also was a coach for the City High/South East football programs for over 27 years.
Mike is from Iowa City and is a City High alum ('86). He competed on the football, baseball and track & field teams at City High. He was a hurdler and ran in the sprint relay events. He considers himself fortunate to have been coached by Hall of Fame coaches John Raffensperger and Larry Brown. Mike went on to play football for Central College in Pella, Iowa for another Hall of Fame coach Ron Schipper. Mike teaches 5th grade at Shimek Elementary.
Mike's mother was a teacher and a principal in the ICCSD, and the other teachers in his life inspire him to teach and coach. During his free time, Mike enjoys watching his boys, Griffin (23), Riley (21), and Ian (17) compete in sports, and spending time with his wife, Leslie (married 25 years).
Tim Casey - Assistant Coach

Coach Tim Casey has been coaching at City High School for 32 years. He still coaches varsity football at City High and also spent some time as a wrestling coach.
Tim is from Atlantic, Iowa where he attended Atlantic High School. During his prep years, Tim competed in football, wrestling, and track & field.
Tim enjoys his free time doing tabata and the "white tube routine."
Ryan Ahlers - Assistant Coach

Coach Ryan Ahlers is entering his 16th year as a cross-country/track & field coach. Fifteen of his sixteen years have been at City High, where he coaches womens XC, women's wrestling and mens track & field. He has also coached mens/womens XC (State Champions in 2013) and track & field at Bozeman High School in Bozeman, Montana.
Ryan is from Dubuque, Iowa where he attended Dubuque Senior High School. At Senior, Ryan was coached by the legendary Jim Boughton and was part of his 1998 State Championship XC team. Jim Boughton instilled a passion in Ryan for coaching and teaching. Ryan continued competing in XC and track & field at Luther College. Ryan teaches special education at City High.
Ryan is married to Lynn, and they have two daughters, August and Wynnifred and a poodle named Mississippi. Ryan enjoys fishing the rivers of Montana, running, cycling, and playing the guitar.
Jason Dwight - Assistant Coach

This is Coach Dwight’s 20th year as a strength and conditioning coach and he has been at City High since 2016, getting his start in 2002, as Co-Director of Strength and Conditioning right here at City High School. Coach Dwight is from Iowa City and is a City High alum (’97). From 1994-1997, he was a contributor on 4 in-a-row Class 4A State Team Titles and a 3-year Varsity Letter Winner, being coached by late Hall of Fame Coach John Raffensperger; a member of numerous MVC, State, and Drake Relays championship relay teams from both his Junior and Senior years in 1996 and 1997. He also was MVC Champion in the 400 Low Hurdles his Junior year, 3rd at the Drake Relays that same year, and a state qualifier in both his Junior and Senior years (6th on the all-time list). His 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams his freshman year still stand as records as well as the 4x200m varsity school record that also stood as the Iowa All-time Best for 22 years and was the very first relay team to run under 1:27 in Iowa High School Track and Field history; being only one of two teams that have done so.
Coach Dwight was a starting Wide Receiver on the 1996 class 4A State Champion Football Team coached by Hall of Fame Coach Larry Brown. He went on to compete in the Long Sprints and the 400m Intermediate Hurdles at The University of Iowa under Head Coach Larry Wieczorek from 1997-1999, and in the Long Sprints at the University of Northern Iowa under Missouri Valley Hall of Fame Coach Chris Bucknam, from 1999-2001; being apart of both the 2000 Men’s Missouri Valley Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championship Track and Field Teams, and the 2001 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championship Team. Coach Dwight’s father coached and taught within the Iowa City Community School District for 31 years, 20 of those years were at City High where he was inducted into the City High Athletic Hall of Fame for Track and Field, coaching the Short/Long Sprinters and Long Jumpers winning 6 in-a-row Class 4A State Team titles from 1992-1997. His brother, Tim, a City High alum (’94) and City High Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee for Track and Field and Football, played college football at the University of Iowa (Hall of Fame Inductee) and went on to have a 10-year career in the National Football League. Major influences in Coach’s coaching career, are both of his College Strength and Conditioning Coaches; Bill Maxwell, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of Olympic Sports at the University of Iowa, and Jim Kramer, Head of Athletic Performance at North Dakota State University and who was the 1998-1999 NSCA National Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year award winner for both the FBS and FCS levels, and the 2013 Samson Equipment/American Football Monthly FCS strength and conditioning coach of the year award winner.
During his free time, Jason likes to exercise and spend time with his family, daughter Mallory and son, Easton.
Carrie Sueppel Karr - Assistant Coach

Coach Carrie Karr has been coaching and teaching in Iowa City since 2001. She is a life-long Iowa City
native who has coached varsity and junior high track at Regina, Southeast, and City High.
Carrie is a graduate of Regina High School (’96) where she was a three sport athlete throughout her four
years of high school. She was a state qualifier all four years of high school and ran in the Drake Relays
two years. She was a member of the Runner-up State Champion Team in 1993, 1994, and 1996. She
was a member of the 1A State Champion Team in 1995 where she ran and scored in three events. She
was also a starter on the first girls’ basketball team from Iowa City to qualify for state in 1996. She
continued her track career at the University of Northern Iowa by participating in the heptathlon her
freshman and sophomore years.
Carrie’s Grandfather, an Iowa Hall of Fame basketball coach, and her sister, Robin, who coaches with a
strict but caring hand, have been very influential in her coaching career. In her free time Carrie enjoys
spending time with her 4 siblings, 10 nieces and nephews, her husband, GT, their four children, Lydia,
George, William, and Henry, and countless other students/athletes that have become family.
Hanna Collins
Middle Distance/Distance
Coach Hanna Collins started her coaching career this past fall with the girls cross country team at City High. Hanna has been a school counselor at South East junior high since the fall of 2019.
Hanna grew up in Pella, Iowa where she attended Pella Community High School and was a 3 time state qualifier in cross country, placing 3rd as a team her senior year and 12th overall. She also qualified for state track her junior and senior year running in the 3000 and the 1500 respectively. Hanna then competed at the division I collegiate level at the University of Northern Iowa in both cross country and track & field. Hanna ran the 5k and 10k in track for UNI.
Hanna is married to her husband Tucker and they have a one year old extra mini goldendoodle named Scarlett. Hanna’s hobbies include running, playing Ticket to Ride, reading mystery books, and hanging out with family and friends.
