Mike Moore - Head Coach

Coach Mike Moore has been teaching and coaching in the Iowa City Community School District for 35 years. He has coached track & field at City High for 27 years and this is his 10th season as the head coach. After the 2017 and 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons, Mike and his staff were named State Coaches of the Year At-Large. He also was a coach for the City High/South East football programs for over 27 years.
Mike is from Iowa City and is a City High alum ('86). He competed on the football, baseball and track & field teams at City High. He was a hurdler and ran in the sprint relay events. He considers himself fortunate to have been coached by Hall of Fame coaches John Raffensperger and Larry Brown. Mike went on to play football for Central College in Pella, Iowa for another Hall of Fame coach Ron Schipper. Mike retired from teaching 5th grade at Lucas and Shimek Elementary in 2023 after 33 years.
Mike's mother was a teacher and a principal in the ICCSD and his father was a member of the IC Police Department and law enforcement for 47 years. During his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife, Leslie (married 28 years) and sons Griffin (26), Riley (24), and Ian (20). Recently, Mike became a grandfather for the first time.
Tim Casey - Assistant Coach

Coach Tim Casey has been coaching at City High School for 32 years. He still coaches varsity football at City High and also spent some time as a wrestling coach.
Tim is from Atlantic, Iowa where he attended Atlantic High School. During his prep years, Tim competed in football, wrestling, and track & field.
Tim enjoys his free time doing tabata and the "white tube routine."
Jason Dwight - Assistant Coach

Coach Dwight enters his 22nd year as a strength and conditioning coach, and his 10th year at City High in charge of the boy's sprinters/hurdles/jumpers, and both the boy's and girl's throwers strength and conditioning event groups. Coach Dwight was a 1997 graduate of City High School, being named to numerous Elite All-State, Drake, and conference championship sprint relay teams and was a conference champion and placed 3rd at the Drake Relays in the 400m Low Hurdles from 1996-1997, both his Junior and Senior Years. He is also a part of many top-10 and top-5 Indoor and Outdoor marks in multiple individual sprint, hurdles, and sprint relay events, as well as a member of the school record 800m relay that still stands today from 1997; as it being the first and only 800m relay team to run under 1:27 in the 113th year history of Iowa Boys Track and Field in Iowa since its inception in 1906, with that time eventually being eclipsed in 2019. Coach Dwght was a part and a contributor to 4-straight boy's team titles from 1993-1997, and was a part of the 1996 team that held the record for most team points in history under the old state meet scoring system. He was also a starting WR on the 1996 Class 4A State Football Championship Team and a part of 3 state Football Championships in 4 years in 1993, 1994, and 1996. Coach Dwight ran track at both the University of Iowa and at The University of Northern Iowa competing in the Long Sprints and 400m Intermediate Hurdles; being a part of UNI's 2000 and 2001 Indoor Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championship Teams and the 2000 Outdoor Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Team.
He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a Level-1 Olympic Weightlifting Coach through the United States Weightlifting Association.
Carrie Sueppel Karr - Assistant Coach

Coach Carrie Karr has been coaching and teaching in Iowa City since 2001. She is a life-long Iowa City
native who has coached varsity and junior high track at Regina, Southeast, and City High.
Carrie is a graduate of Regina High School (’96) where she was a three sport athlete throughout her four
years of high school. She was a state qualifier all four years of high school and ran in the Drake Relays
two years. She was a member of the Runner-up State Champion Team in 1993, 1994, and 1996. She
was a member of the 1A State Champion Team in 1995 where she ran and scored in three events. She
was also a starter on the first girls’ basketball team from Iowa City to qualify for state in 1996. She
continued her track career at the University of Northern Iowa by participating in the heptathlon her
freshman and sophomore years.
Carrie’s Grandfather, an Iowa Hall of Fame basketball coach, and her sister, Robin, who coaches with a
strict but caring hand, have been very influential in her coaching career. In her free time Carrie enjoys
spending time with her 4 siblings, 10 nieces and nephews, her husband, GT, their four children, Lydia,
George, William, and Henry, and countless other students/athletes that have become family.
Jake Leohr
Throws (Shot Put, Discus)
Coach Jake Leohr is entering his 7th year of coaching Track & Field at the high school level. Previously, He spent his first five years coaching in Fort Collins, Colorado at Fossil Ridge High School where he coached the Throwing events and the Defensive Line for the football team. Coach Leohr is a Pastoral Resident at Compass Church in the Iowa City area. This will be his second year on the Little Hawk Staff.
Coach Leohr grew up in Iowa City and graduated from City High in 2014. He competed in football, track & field, basketball, and baseball for the Little Hawks. Coach Leohr went on to play football at the University of South Dakota before completing his Master’s degree in Special Education at the University of Northern Colorado.
Coach Leohr returned to Iowa City with his wife Kaylan in July of 2022. They have a son, Judah (2), a daughter, Hope (5 months), and a Labrador retriever, Samson.
“I have a heart for the people and community of Iowa City. It wasn’t a matter of “if” but “when” I would move back to Iowa City to serve the community that I love. I am so grateful for my time in South Dakota, and Colorado. I met some special people who inspired me in my purpose, which is my faith, and my passion, which is people and sports. I am thankful for all of the coaches and athletes in my life who have inspired me to be the best that I can be for kids and the community I serve.”
